A new survey suggests that more Americans believe President Trump has contributed to rising prices rather than bringing them down since returning to office.

The Yahoo/YouGov poll, conducted in late November, found that 49 percent of respondents think Trump has done more to push prices higher. Only 24 percent said he has helped lower prices. Another 17 percent felt things have stayed about the same, and 10 percent were unsure.

Recent data from the consumer price index shows prices increased 3 percent over the twelve months ending in September.

Public opinion on the president’s impact is sharply divided along party lines. Among independents, 54 percent say Trump has driven prices up, while 18 percent believe he has helped bring them down.

Democrats are overwhelmingly critical, with 86 percent saying he has increased prices and just 1 percent saying he has lowered them. Republicans view the situation differently. A majority of GOP respondents, 53 percent, say Trump has played a role in lowering prices, and 12 percent say he has raised them.

The poll results come as Trump has been placing more attention on cost-of-living issues. Democrats who highlighted affordability concerns in last month’s elections performed well, putting renewed focus on how voters feel about prices and economic pressure.

The survey included 1,684 adults and was conducted from November 21 to 24. The margin of error is 3 percentage points.
