More than one-third of President Trump’s 2024 supporters say everyday expenses feel harder to manage now than at any point in their lives, according to a new Politico survey.

The mid-November poll found that 37 percent of Trump voters believe “the cost of living here is the worst I can ever remember it being.” That number is fairly close to the 53 percent of Harris voters who feel the same way, as well as the 46 percent of Americans overall who share that view.

Another 34 percent of Trump voters say the cost of living is bad but recall times when it was worse. Only 22 percent of Harris voters felt that way. Meanwhile, 24 percent of Trump supporters say the cost of living “is not bad,” compared to just 1 percent of Harris supporters.

The findings come as affordability continues to dominate national discussions. Democrats leaned heavily into cost-of-living issues during last month’s elections and saw strong results, while President Trump has argued that the narrative is exaggerated and politically driven.

Some Republican strategists have begun warning that the party’s economic message is not connecting with enough voters, a potential problem as the GOP aims to hold both chambers in 2026.

The poll found that 56 percent of Americans consider high living costs one of the top issues facing the country today. Other concerns include the economy at 32 percent, high taxes at 24 percent, difficulty accessing healthcare at 23 percent, threats to democracy at 21 percent, crime at 20 percent and illegal immigration at 19 percent. No other issue reached 15 percent.

There is also little partisan difference among those who rank cost of living as a top priority: 57 percent of Harris voters and 53 percent of Trump voters list it among their top three concerns.

The Politico survey included 2,098 adults and was conducted online from November 14 to 17. The margin of error is 2 points.
