Reince Priebus, former chief of staff to President Trump, said Sunday that the president is growing frustrated with how Republicans are communicating on affordability issues.
Speaking on ABC’s “This Week,” Priebus said Trump feels the party’s message is not where it needs to be. He added that Trump is impatient for the economy to improve and believes the GOP is taking heavy criticism on rising costs, which is contributing to his frustration.
The administration has faced criticism from both supporters and Republican lawmakers over how it has handled everyday economic concerns.
During his campaign, Trump promised to ease financial pressure on families. Since returning to office, he has rolled out major economic proposals, including broad tariffs and a tax and budget package signed into law in July.
But inflation figures from September show prices were still rising. Consumer prices were up 3 percent compared to a year earlier, with food costs increasing 3.1 percent and energy prices up 2.8 percent. Some companies have also passed along the added costs of Trump’s tariffs to consumers.
Democrats have capitalized on affordability concerns in several key races, including the governor’s contests in Virginia and New Jersey and the New York City mayoral race.
